  1. We were impressed at first with Nest but have had battery problems often and constantly having to charge it. We should not have to do that. I hear more positive feedback or results for Honeywell and Ecobee.

  2. I am looking for a smart thermostat for an airbnb property. I need it to have the function where it can be nearly 100% operated from the App so that the ONLY function that the guests can access is turning it off or boosting it incrementally for up to say 6 hours maximum. I need it so that guests are also unable to change this setting.

Do you know if any thermostats have this available in the settings ?

    Thanks

  3. Had nest moved to ecobee. I am literally paying almost same for more additional features. Nest just have cool rolling design and Brand name, otherwise it is overpriced crap.

  4. I am happy with my Amazon therm but that Emerson is cool as hell looking with the customization of background ect.

  5. The most basic setting which my family want doesn’t work. We want to set the heating to turn on early morning before we wake up. I have set a schedule and it just won’t turn itself on! I’ve even tried it with the Nest not turned off but at lower temperature and it still won’t activate at the time I’ve set. I’ve turned off all smart learning features and that doesn’t help either. So annoying because other than that, it’s a good bit of kit. If anyone has successfully done this please tell me how you did it. Thanks for the video.

  6. Nest learning thermostat is the worst! Not being able to adjust the eco temp is the worst design. I get its “eco” but when it’s 100degrees outside at night, 76 is still too hot to sleep in and makes the house stuffy. Needs to have some sort of adjustability. I shouldn’t have to walk around the house for the A/C to realize to kick on.

  7. Nest truly fancy GARBAGE ! Turn my AC unit which was prepared for winter time and covered !! Yes I turned AC mode off . Good thing i heard it ! It was red hot Now i have to call specialist to inspect if unit need to repair 😡

  8. I have a 18-20 year old heat pump system. Comfortmaker compressor unit outside. The reversing valve opens for cooling. (Default heating mode valve closes.) I went through 2 nest thermostats in a year. 2019-2020. The nest thermostat relay for the reversing valve would not support the coil (electro magnet) on the reversing valve. The first nest thermostat was used for about a month before failure. you could hear the reversing valve fluttering. (while cooling) I called a company out, explained that I’m not a total idiot, don’t BS me. They BS me. 2 separate tech visits one a senior tech, said I needed a new reversing valve, filter and 9lbs of R22 (a few years ago $150.00 per lb for R22.) And even with the home warranty I had with my newly purchased home, $1500 out of pocket. I asked what was bad, they said the coil on the valve. I asked why not replace the coil to which they argued with me. So, I replaced the coil myself, and the problem persisted. I called another company, he wired my valve to be open constantly and it started working. Said he would get back to me when work slowed down. I reinstalled my old Honeywell thermostat and removed his bypass, problem fixed. I got a second expensive heat pump rated Nest, and months later it did the same thing.

  9. Nest is unbeatable – ONLY if it’s a proper match for your HVAC system and intalled properly. "User error" is common, common sense is not.

  10. I prefer the Nest E compared to all of them never had a single issue with it, but they don’t sell it in stores anymore had it 4 years until lightning hit our house and destroyed it, it’s by far the superior version. Nest learning was absolutely garbage always had issues with it as it would change the temperature by itself, tried adding a common wire since this version has a common known issue where it loses power in cold weather but the common wire didn’t fix it and turns out after 1 year (bought brand new from Walmart in October 2023) the Rc terminal went bad during the coldest time of the winter causing our furnace to short cycle $230 down the drain. I can’t stand the Nest 2020 model (current install now) it’s ugly, basic and don’t get me started on the crappy thermostat UI for Google home since this is the first thermostat that DOES NOT allow the useage of the Nest App but it was the only option we had.

  11. i am a hvac master technician and i hate the smart thermostat fad that sadly isn’t going away. if you want things to last remember the kiss suggestion keep it simple stupid. if you must have a ridiculous thermostat just to turn your ac on and off dont count out honeywell they have built the best most reliable thermostats in quantity and years more so than all other thermostat makers combined. if i had to pick from the others id say ecobee. i want nest to go away.

  12. the nest is not letting keep the fan constantly on . i bought the $99 one. do not want to use timer
can amazon thermostat keep it on constantly ?

  13. I was so happy when I got my Nest thermostat and now I hate that mofo. If you got a heat pump with auxiliary heating avoid the Nest at all cost. Honeywell is your friend.

  14. In europe we have the homematic stuff, open and reliable (home assistant local ready through the CCU)
    Best ecosystem by far

  15. I had the Ecobee (older version) for a couple years in my old house with zero issues. When I moved my new house already had a new gen 3 Nest installed. Worked great for two months then it stopped connecting to my wifi. Contacted Nest and they sent a refurbished replacement. It connected to my wifi and worked for a day and then it stopped connecting. I will ask for another replacement then if still does the same thing I will go back to Ecobee. I read this is a known issue with the Nest.

  16. Had the Nest thermostat, my AC would make a really hard banging sound when the compressor would kick, installed the Ecobee Premium two days ago, no more banging noises.

  17. I just bought a Nest 3rd generation learning thermostat for my steam boiler with a 24-volt 2-wire thermostat. I installed it and connected it to my Wi-Fi. I got all the way to test mode, but the boiler would not come on. The damper motor started to hum and buzz, and it would not open the flapper. back it goes……

  18. The nest just works and comes with a full package to get you going. Installation was intuitive too. My previous thermostat wouldn’t work without a c wire.

  19. how about any aprilaire 8920W equivalents? I found none… That thing controls ac, heat, dehumidifier, humidifier, air purifier/exchanger, all in one… That one is smart too

  20. Ecobee sucks!!! Don’t buy it. Its thermostat suddenly dropped my preset temperature for one room a few times, which could potentially destroy my zone controller board. When I tried to contact their customer service about it, there was nobody to talk!!!

  21. I just want to be able to control my thermostat on my phone away from home. I don’t want any learning/assistant to adjust ANYTHING at any time. I will do it all manually at the dial or on my phone. That being said, what’s the best one for me?

  22. Spend thousands on a heat pump and water tank system. Then Ideal/Halo want to screw you for £52 to get access from the internet.

  23. eccobee sucks !

The simple command of any electrical device ON and OFF is does not exists in app or device.
This simple basic function is not integrated in the menu either app or device.
The schedule is taken as a task.
    The sleep mode is unrealiable
The fact that you have to choose between auto or on ONLY is ridiculous.
It should be home or away period .
Not away home sleep and randomly change or completely ignore the set schedule.

If you want to save energy off is the only way to not have a fan running or AC unit kicking in …
Look you see something on your phone and screen and the AC unit does whatever it wants according to the temperatures set as your selected "comfort”

So the savings are not existing … If your away and want to save money off is the only way specially if your away 10hrs or 14 like most people.

  24. the nest is garbage, its temp sensors are out of wack and google refuses to replace or warranty them, yet most of my neighbors have them and have the same issues, house has been at 78 degrees or more for the last few weeks, this is outrageous, and i spent the last 6 hours on hold attempting to speak to google nest team about this and they will not answer and when you press the number to leave a callback number it says the mailbox is full and hangs up, DO NOT BUY NEST PEOPLE, save your money and spend it on something better

  25. Ecobee works great but has programmed obsolescence. I am on my third. Both failed wi-fi communication at around 3 years.

  26. Why I need a smart thermostat when I already got my 20 year old state set to change temperature from the time I wake up to I go to sleep for 7 days a week.My state is set it forget it.
